Pink Poppy Flowers

I am drawn to exploring what places mean to us, both personally and culturally. Landscapes are physical places, but they are repositories for our myths and memories.

A pink sunrise at low tide, dusk settling in as kids toast marshmallows on the beach, a dinner bell, music traveling across the water. Lived or imagined, nostalgia is sometimes comforting, sometimes sad, sometimes as enveloping as fog. I often create narratives as I paint.

Though unseen in the work itself, I imagine a solitary woman taking a walk along a quiet cove in August. Or the feeling of gathering with old friends around the dinner table. Or an old-timer  looking out the windows and seeing a storm rolling in from the islands.

I want my work to feel specific, yet somewhat universal, for each of us to be able to retrieve the story we need from the canvas.
